Flourishing in Retirement: A Season of Color

by Graham Hart, MDiv

It was a cool crisp fall midwestern day. The prairie path was covered with fallen leaves, and the colors of fall were in full display. The yellows, reds, and fading greens provided a canopy under which I walked. It was spectacular.

These pictures are an apt metaphor for retirement. Retirement is a season of change. It is not summer. It is not winter. Some leaves may have fallen off the tree, but it is still a season full of color and life.

LeaderWise’s “Flourishing in Retirement” workshop/cohort explores the contours and colors of this unique season. As a workshop, it introduces theories that help one think about the retirement years in new ways. As a cohort, it offers a supportive environment to share learnings, questions and concerns.

A recent participant wrote: “The LeaderWise Retirement Workshop has helped me prepare for what is new and exciting by connecting me with others from whom I learned much.  Having a process; getting some theory; and sharing with colleagues has transformed my individual process into a collective journey, which continues to shape my future in better ways than I could have imagined.” —Rev. Dr. John C. Van Nuys

In the current U.S. job market through the end of this decade, it is anticipated that 10, 000 people a day will retire. Maybe you will be one of them. There are countless seminars offered on the financial aspects of retirement. This is not that. It is about flourishing and discovering the colors of this season of retirement.
