STEPHANIE HOOVER, PhD
STAFF PSYCHOLOGIST
As a staff psychologist at LeaderWise, Stephanie’s primary role is conducting vocational assessments. She values individuals’ strengths, well-being, and culture.
Stephanie earned her PhD in Counseling Psychology from the University of Utah. Her dissertation focused on mental health counselors-in-training and their professional development as social justice advocates. Her BA is in Spanish and Sociology/Anthropology from Denison University in Ohio. She studied in Quito, Ecuador and Santiago, Chile, where she learned about social movements and human rights. As a young adult, she was involved in inter-faith retreats and service learning leadership.
Stephanie grew up with theological discussions at the family dinner table. Her mother and brother are both ordained in the American Baptist church.
Over the past 10+ years, Stephanie has taught psychology courses, supervised counselors-in-training, and conducted community health research. In her work, she was part of a longstanding research-academic partnership called Project GRACE. One of their programs was “Heart Matters,” which ran heart disease prevention classes tailored to local Black church congregations.
Stephanie resides in North Carolina where she makes art and practices yoga.
